Health Tests & Research Polish Lowland Sheepdog Health Research -PRA Research Project. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is a common cause of blindness in purebred dogs. It is an inherited disease and there are several different forms resulting from defects in different genes. Most forms are due to a defect in a single gene and are inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. PRA may become a serious problem in the Polish Lowland Sheepdog. It is our goal is prevent this from happening. -Diabetes & Hypothyroidism Study We are working with the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA, and the Swedish Polish Lowland Sheepdog Club to collect samples for Diabetes and Hypothyroid studies.
