Health Tests & Research Polish Lowland Sheepdog Health Research -PRA Research Project.  Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is a common cause of blindness in purebred dogs. It is an inherited disease and there are several different forms resulting from defects in different genes. Most forms are due to a defect in a single gene and are inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. PRA may become a serious problem in the Polish Lowland Sheepdog. It is our goal is prevent this from happening. -Diabetes & Hypothyroidism Study We are working with the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA, and the Swedish Polish Lowland Sheepdog Club to collect samples for Diabetes and Hypothyroid studies. We are looking for blood and serum samples from the following dogs: * Dogs that have been diagnosed with Diabetes * Dogs that have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism * Dogs that are healthy and older then 8 years old * Unrelated to dogs that have diabetes or hypothyroidism
